Sprockets for Coil Handling Machinery

Coil Handling Machinery

Coil handling sprockets drive the chain conveyors and turnstile mechanisms that transport steel, aluminium, and paper coils through slitting, levelling, and packaging lines. Heavy coil weights (up to 30 tonnes) demand duplex/triplex configurations with 4140 alloy steel.

Advantages vs Inferior / Working Principle

✅ 4140 alloy steel for extreme shock loads — C45 fails in this application.

✅ HRC 40-50 hardened teeth — resists metal scale abrasion.

✅ Precision bore 0.025mm TIR — vibration-free operation at production speed.

✅ Full EN 10204 3.1 material traceability — meets audit requirements.

Locations: Coil car chain, turnstile drive, threading table, exit conveyor. Function: Convert motor torque into precise material feed and processing motion.

Compatibility / Selection

OEM: Danieli*, SMS Group*, Primetals*, Andritz* systems. *Compatibility reference only.

Select: ❶ Match chain pitch ❷ Shaft bore → hub type ❸ Tooth count for speed ratio ❹ Material grade for environment ❺ Surface treatment for corrosion protection.

Install / Troubleshoot

Install: LOTO → release chain → remove old sprocket → mount new (TL = rapid change) → align → tension 2-3% → lubricate → test.

Issues: Chain riding teeth = worn sprocket (replace both). Vibration = misalignment/bore runout. Excessive noise = dry chain. Chain skipping = elongated chain + worn teeth (replace both).

Case Studies

Wollongong, NSW: “Precision sprockets matched OEM specs. Running well.” ★★★★★

Sydney, NSW: “Split hub saved hours during shutdown. Material certs provided.” ★★★★★

Brisbane, QLD: “Consistent quality across multiple orders. Hardened teeth lasting well.” ★★★★☆

Adelaide, SA: “QD bushed on large shaft. Rapid installation, running true.” ★★★★★

Melbourne, VIC: “Professional documentation, competitive pricing, reliable supply.” ★★★★★
