Sprockets for Elevators and Lifts — Chain-Driven Vertical Transport
Elevator and lift sprockets drive the chain mechanisms in freight lifts, car lifts, platform lifts, and chain-driven passenger elevators. As safety-critical vertical transport components, these sprockets must deliver fail-safe torque transmission with full material traceability. We supply elevator sprockets in 4140 alloy steel with precision bores, induction-hardened teeth, and EN 10204 Type 3.1 material certification to meet AS 1735 compliance requirements.

Performance vs Inferior Sprockets
✅ 4140 alloy steel with verified composition — inferior sprockets use unknown steel grades that cannot pass safety audits.
✅ HRC 45–55 with controlled depth — cheap sprockets have inconsistent hardness creating fatigue risk.
✅ Full EN 10204 3.1 traceability — mandatory for AS 1735 lift compliance. No-brand imports cannot provide this.
How Sprockets Work in Elevators
In chain-driven lifts, the Antriebsritzel is on the main gearbox output shaft at the top of the lift shaft. It engages heavy-duty roller chain or leaf chain connected to the lift car via a compensating mechanism. As the sprocket rotates, it raises or lowers the car. Counterweight sprockets on the opposite side balance the car weight. Locations: Machine room (drive), car frame (compensating), counterweight frame. Funktion: Vertical transport of car + payload at controlled speed with 8:1 minimum safety factor.
Lift Capacity vs Chain Selection
| Kette | Strand | Approx SWL | Typical Application |
|---|---|---|---|
| #60 / 12B | Duplex | Up to 1,000 kg | Platform lifts, car stackers |
| #80 / 16B | Duplex | Up to 2,500 kg | Freight lifts, goods hoists |
| #100 / 20B | Duplex | Up to 5,000 kg | Heavy freight, vehicle lifts |
| #120+ / 24B+ | Triplex | 5,000–10,000 kg | Heavy industrial, port |

Selection / Installation
Wählen: ❶ OEM model + year ❷ Sprocket drawing/dimensions ❸ Material (4140 for compliance) ❹ Confirm safety factor ≥8:1 ❺ Request EN 10204 3.1
Installieren: ❶ Isolate lift per AS 1735. LOTO. ❷ Support car on safety blocks. ❸ Remove chain tension + old sprocket. ❹ Install new sprocket, key, torque. ❺ Re-tension chain per OEM. ❻ Load test before service.
Troubleshooting
| Issue | Cause | Fix |
|---|---|---|
| Car jerking during travel | Worn teeth or chain pitch error | Inspect sprocket + chain. Replace if worn |
| Excessive chain noise | Dry chain or misalignment | Lubricate, re-align sprockets |
| Car levelling inaccuracy | Chain elongation from worn sprocket | Replace both, recalibrate levelling |
| Motor overload | Stiff chain or seized roller | Full chain path inspection |
| Vibration at machine room | Bore runout or coupling wear | Check TIR. Replace sprocket if >0.05mm |
