Ball Bearing Idler Sprocket

Ball bearing idler sprockets for maintaining chain tension on long-span drives. Pre-assembled with sealed ball bearings. Available in ANSI #35 through #80 and ISO metric 06B through 16B. Prevents chain sag and whip on return runs. Carbon steel with hardened teeth.

Description

Ball Bearing Idler Sprockets — Chain Tension Control

Ball bearing idler sprockets are pre-assembled with sealed ball bearings and are designed to be installed on non-adjustable shafts along the chain path to take up slack, maintain proper chain tension, and prevent chain whip on return runs. They rotate freely on a stationary shaft, guided by the chain itself. Available in ANSI #35-#80 and ISO 06B-16B with tooth counts from 13 to 25.

FAQ

How is an idler sprocket different from a drive sprocket?
An idler sprocket rotates freely on a stationary shaft. It does not transmit power — it only maintains chain tension and guides the chain path. A drive/driven sprocket is keyed to a shaft to transmit torque.
Do I need to lubricate the bearing?
No. The sealed ball bearing is pre-lubricated for life. No maintenance required under normal operating conditions.
What shaft size?
The bearing bore determines the shaft size. Standard sizes match common bolt/shaft diameters. Contact us for specific bore requirements.
Stainless steel idler?
SS304 idler sprockets available for food processing and washdown environments.
